CABELO: IN THE WINGS OF THE GOLDEN SCARAB

In this exhibition, Cabelo presents works in witch Gentian violet* accumulated and dried on acrylic sheets, forms a metallic green layer similar to the color of the wings of insects of the Coleoptera Order. This production provides continuity to the series  “Suite Volátil”, and “Big Bang Violeta”, in witch the artist uses Gentian violet to paint and register on video the reactions between the material and water in a latrine.

The word is present, as it is in much of his works. Letters of various kinds accumulate, engendering characters in various situations. Words form verses, witch form stanzas, witch end up forming other bodies from whose mouths leave sequences of letters that resemble flows of energy, molecules, sounds, noises ans incomplete texts, where the image evoked by the words and the image by itself intermingle in a never ending score.

Cabelo’s work gained notoriety for the first time in 1996, when he participated in the exhibition “Antartica Artes com a Folha” and then, in 1997, at the Documenta X (Kassel), where he presented a complex performance. With an extensive curriculum of participations in national and international exhibitions, including the 26th Bienal de Sao Paulo,, Imediações de Monte Basura, Centre d’Art Santa Mônica, Barcelona, Spain; Côte à Côte, Art Contemporain du Brésil, CAPC Musée d’Art Contemporain, Bordeaux, France. This year, Cabelowas one of the invited artists for the performances at ARCO MADRID, and is also participating at the Paralela Exhibition.
