Intro

Whether through painting, photos or site-specific installations, all of her works are about space, architecture and emptiness. Carolina Martinez creates connections that exist between invisible urban spaces, architecture and scenes from everyday life and often go unnoticed.

In her works, she always seeks to displace something standard in architecture and raise some form of a common element of architecture to the status of sculpture. By challenging notions of architecture, it distorts the perception that the viewer has of the space.

Her series of Polaroid photos recovers urban voids and places normally neglected in contemporary routine. Today, the urban man lives with the hurry, and often in the virtual world. Her photographs show texture and poetry in common scenes in big cities, looking back at a city, the real space, which is palpable and moldable.

Her paintings are allowed as an integrated body of work that defines research on aspects (and perspectives) of invisible urban spaces, architecture and contemporary routine.

Carolina Martinez was born in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1985.

Graduated in Architecture and Postgraduate in Art History and Architecture in Brazil at PUC-Rio, and became known for her artistic work in 2010, when she participated in the Contemporary Art Salon of the Ribeirão Preto Art Museum, São Paulo Brazil.
